Let’s Face: JEGGINGS!
Last week, my husband and I went shopping for jeans. I was in the Levi’s store and came across an awesome pair of jean-leggings, which I assumed to be considered “jeggings.” While wearing them at my performance last Saturday night, I got into a discussion with my people about the jean leggings. And the consensus was that I was NOT, in fact, sporting jeggings… They referred to them simply as skinny jeans.
I have tried on skinny jeans before and believe me, the amount of Lycra or spandex in this pair of Levi’s reminded me of wearing my black leggings much more than denim; although, they were made of a denim blend. My friends fought long and hard and said that jeggings were actually legging fabric that had the photo print of jeans on them, no pockets and zippers. Don’t get me wrong… I have a pair of those too (in black)! I only thought of them as printed leggings, similar to my leggings that have prints of women’s faces, floral patterns or plaid. You catch my drift. I would never wear those jean printed leggings out as a pair of jeans, I use them as the under layer of my tunics and tall boots.
Jeggings, in my opinion, are legging-styled jeans that are made with denim fabric blend and have pockets, belt loops and zippers. Is that not correct!? I decided to check it out with my good friend, Wikepedia, for a better explanation.
Here is what he had to say:
“Jeggings were brought on by the resurgence in style of skinny jeans in the mid- to late-2000s, when a higher demand for an even tighter style of pant came about.[2] Since jeggings are typically made of a denim/spandex blend, they are often worn on their own as opposed to under a skirt or dress. Some jeggings have zip-flies and pockets, while others just have an elastic waistband and no pockets.
With respect to material, jeggings fall into two main categories:
1) Jeggings that are legging material made to look like denim with fake pockets and belt loops; and
2) Jeggings that are a true cross between denim and legging material. “Denim jeggings” are essentially a denim fabric with the elasticity of a legging.
The latter are more similar to skinny jeans than the former. Some designers call “denim jeggings” pull-on jeans rather than jeggings. [3]”
Conclusion: We all knew what we were talking about after all! From now on, I am going total fashionista and calling my new Levi’s jeggings “pull-on jeans.” They are skinnier and more comfortable than skinny jeans. I LOVE THEM. Throughout my research I also noticed American Eagle has similar ones for half the price. Time to go shopping again!
Ladies, if you haven’t experienced a pair of pull-on jeans, I highly suggest them. Not only for the ulimate level of comfort, they fit your shape like a glove. They are also very flattering and wear perfectly under knee boots!
Happy shopping!!
