WRITE YOUR HEART OUT!!

This past weekend, I was fortunate enough to witness a dear friend experience a spiritual awakening.  We were all relaxing and watching a movie when, all if a sudden, he shot off the couch like a lightening bolt!  He was slightly frightened and excited at the same time.  After calming him down enough, my husband and I were able to ask him to express his emotional break-through.

He seemed to be connecting the energy of his surroundings to that within his body and passion center (which might be referred to as loins or feelings in the “gut”).  This was his first trip to New York City.  All the new experiences and energy had definitely sent him some intense vibrations.

As my husband and I started to calm him down, he tried to explain the phenomenon but couldn’t find the words.  He kept saying that we should write it down.  This new story of his should be put down on paper.  I completely agreed with him that it needed put to paper, but I suggested him doing it himself.  If they were his visions and feelings, there was nothing me nor my husband could write for him to explain this occurrence.

Later that week, the topic was approached again.  “The Pen is Mightier than the Sword.”

I have been writing since I was about 9 years old.  That was when my mom got me into “journaling” (look, I use it as a verb!).   At that age, I was diligent to do it nightly.  That lasted until I was about 22, and now I find myself doing it only in times of trouble or complete elation—monumental moments.

I often miss those quiet times with my journal.  When I go back and read some old entries, they can provoke a lot of emotion.  I read my dreams, feelings, goals, loves, hates, worries, etc which can really change the course of your life!  For instance, I read an old entry that foretold my ambition at the time.  Reading it 2 years after it was written was pretty cool.  I could see that all those things I foretold and desired had come true!

I urged my friend to start writing.

Writing is a way to connect to your soul.  It is a way to make your visions clear.  It can remove the dust from your brain.  Once you use the pen, you can start to forgive, forget and foresee.

Our minds are so intricate, our hearts so incontrollable, and our souls so indescribable!!  Writing can free you of burdens that have been heavy on your heart.  Sure, any therapist can be paid to listen… but the notebook costs so much less and can help you clarify your own life, organize your own thoughts and develop your own ambitions.

No need to get fancy either when buying a notebook.  Go buy a normal spiral, a bound notepad or use a loose-leaf paper to put in a binder… Heck! These days you can store your entries right on your computer or tablet!  You can go the “poetic” route and buy moleskin or leather bound books with a strap.  It’s your choice.  Lines or no lines??

True and amazing things can happen once you start writing!  If you haven’t experienced it, I suggest you try.  Make a commitment to sit alone for at least 30min each night before bed and write!  Doesn’t matter what it’s about… I promise things will surface.  Especially when you know that no one else knows about it and no one else ever needs to read it… all your deepest desires will be revealed.  All your passions, worries, stresses, hopes, dreams and even goals can start to put themselves into the right place and time… once you acknowledge them.

Go on!!! Next time you have an issue… use the pen instead of the phone.  I dare you!
