The days are long, sometimes the night are even longer—but getting in the habit of coming home and dropping your things can add up to a clutter that will not only pollute your space, but pollute your mind. After a long day at work, your first priority is to relax. Small things, like hanging your jacket in the closet, seem like too much effort. If you find yourself leaving clothes strewn on the bedpost or chair, leaving junk mail in piles on the kitchen table or leaving last night’s dishes out to crust over, you might need to reassess the importance of a cleanly home. A common excuse (besides laziness) would be that you are not expecting company any time soon or the cleaning lady comes next week… Any excuse is a bad excuse for messing with your mojo.
Our minds and energy levels can be directly affected by our surroundings. This goes for location (city) of living, environmental changes (weather), smells (aromatherapy) and one of the most important, living space (cleanliness and feng shui).
Clutter makes you lethargic! The energy that resonates around clutter is stagnant. That stagnant energy will make you tired. Start to clear up the clutter and notice that your energy becomes renewed.
Clutter can keep you in the past! As more things pile up, there is less space for new things. The things you are holding on to may even evoke old memories. Do a quick spring cleaning and get rid of the piles of the past and keep your space open for new and exciting experiences. It will be a good start to a great future.
Clutter can make you fat! Is it a common thing that people who are messy are overweight? Surrounding yourself with the clutter is a form of protection… just as allowing your layer of fat to cushion you from the shocks of life— both of these are ways to combat the things in our life that make us feel uncomfortable. They make us feel that we are in control of things and prevent things from affecting us too deeply. This illusion will be lessened if you clean up your living space. You may also find it easier to clean up your eating habits.
Clutter affects your social life! If you are attracting people that mistreat you, it may be directly correlated with the way you mistreat yourself by allowing junk to pile up around you. If you clear your space, you can clear your mind. Treat yourself better and you will soon be surrounded by the likeness of that. Also, you can get pretty ashamed of the clutter in your space and stop inviting people over. You may start living a lonely lifestyle in solitude with your mess. Make your living conditions clean, so you aren’t embarrassed or anxious to have company visit.
Spring is the perfect time to take out the trash. Get the stuff out from under the bed that has been collecting dust bunnies… your allergies will improve! Clean out the closet of all the outfits you haven’t worn in the past year. Scour the floors and walls. Throw out the clutter and start your spring with a fresh you. As the world renews and changes from stagnant gray days into bright and lively days, you will too.
